Aside from the general E-2 visa acquirement procedure, certain time constraints by the hiring school may require the teacher to acquire the visa from Japan, which is the closest country to Korea with a Korean consulate. Expenses for this option are usually put up by the employer. The Japan visa-run is also commonly utilized by teachers who wish to renew their E-2 visa for another year.
- The teacher enters Korea on a regular tourist visa, with all the required documents for the E-2 visa. Once the documents are received, the employer will begin the application process with the Korean Immigration Office.
- Once the visa is approved and issued, the employer can arrange for a brief two-day trip to Japan to acquire the E-2 visa stamp on the passport from the Korean embassy or consulate in Japan. The teacher should prepare two passport-sized photos and passport along with about 6000 yen and documents provided by the employer.
- At the Korean consulate in Japan, the documents must be submitted before 2pm of the day you arrive. Then the passport stamped with the visa will be ready for pick-up by 4pm the next day.
