In order to complete the actual hiring process to begin employment as an ESL instructor, the teaching work visa more commonly known as the E-2 visa must be obtained by the instructor with assistance from the employer. Although a contract may have been agreed to or signed by the teacher and employer, the teacher is still not officially an employee under Korean immigration law until the E-2 work visa is approved and issued by the Korean immigration office, and the teacher has received the visa stamp on his or her passport at a Korean embassy or consulate. The teachers must provide the needed documents in order for the employer to begin the E-2 acquirement process as shown further below.
E-2 Visa documents to be provided by the teacher:
- Two sealed university transcripts with the registrar¡¯s signature or stamp across the seal
- The original university degree
- A photocopy or scan of applicant¡¯s passport picture and information page
- Two copies of the original contract signed by both applicant and employer
- Three recent passport-size color photos
- Updated and complete resume with correct mailing address and phone number.
- Criminal record check from home country with Apostille
- Self-completed medical evaluation form (provided by ESLPia)
